How to use an ubtan and a sandalwood face pack

What an ubtan is, and step-by-step directions for the Ruh & Ras Musk Turmeric Ubtan and Sandalwood Face Pack, with how often to use them and how to store them.

What is an ubtan?

An ubtan is a traditional Indian blend of powdered grains, legumes, herbs and spices, mixed into a paste to cleanse and polish the skin. Ground chickpea (besan) has been the base of Indian ubtans for generations, because it cleanses gently and lifts away excess oil without stripping the skin.

Musk Turmeric Ubtan, step by step

1. Take as much ubtan as you need for one use, with a dry spoon.

2. Mix it with rose water or milk into a soft paste.

3. Apply it evenly to clean, damp skin.

4. Scrub gently, then rinse off.

Use it once or twice a week.

Sandalwood Face Pack, step by step

1. Mix the face pack with rose water or plain water into a smooth paste.

2. Apply it evenly to clean skin.

3. Leave it on only briefly, and rinse it off gently before it dries completely.

Use it once or twice a week.

Mixing with rose water

Both packs can be mixed with rose water, which is why the Ruh & Ras Ritual Set brings the Rose Tonic Mist, the Musk Turmeric Ubtan and the Sandalwood Face Pack together, with a complimentary coconut shell bowl and wooden spoon for mixing the paste. Mist your face whenever it needs refreshing, and once or twice a week mix the ubtan or the face pack with rose water in the bowl.

Care and storage

Both are for external use only. Patch test before use, and stop if irritation occurs. Keep the jars tightly closed in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight, and use them within 12 months of manufacture.
